But we are also members of Boondockers Welcome, Escapees, and Thousand Trails. So we’re here to share our tips on all the locations we stay in Alabama. We are full-time RV travelers, so we will be updating this blog often! Come back often!
Boondocking / Free Camping
Akron, Alabama – Lock 8 – GPS: 32.893095, -87.783418 PROS: This is such a beautiful area. Beautiful river views. Boating and fishing are available. Great cell service. Quiet and clean. CONS: Road is a little rough, with no freshwater or electric hookups. This is dry camping.
Barbour WMA – GPS: 31.994413, -85.453735. Water and trash are available. Big rig friendly! Wide-open spaces to camp. The sign says it’s only open October through April, but the website says year-round, so definitely ask! There is a small manned office there!
Who’s done some casino docking? Don’t underestimate this!! You’ll be surprised. Victoryland Casino. Not the most epic view, but if you just need to get some work done or some sleep, it’s awesome!!! And guess what? There is a dump station right across the street at the Love’s truck stop. Check out this casino!! It’s actually really nice! GPS: 32.4094, -85.950355. Great cell service!
Hollins Hunter Camp – Talladega National Forest. GPS: 33.158104, -86.115158. Unlimited size rigs will fit. Cell service is workable! Boosted would be better.
Escapee’s / SKP Park
Summerdale, Alabama – GPS: 30.458468, -87.781127 – This is a very nice SKP Park. PROS: Clean, quiet, and very good amenities, great cell service for working. CONS: Very crowded and expensive.
Thousand Trails
Arley, Alabama – Hidden Cove RV Resort – We have not stayed here yet, but it is high on our list for the next time we are in Alabama. Cons: Very weak cell service for those of us that work. This may not be good for that.
